Nearly 100

Another successful week with 23 salmon and 6 sea trout for last weeks rods. The river is now getting to a height that is typical of June where we began at 2" and ended at -1" with warmer water temperatures in the high 50's and early 60's during the day. Malcom Abrines was a happy chap when his team of rods that took Waterside, Lower Invercauld, and Dinnet, Deecastle and rotated between the beats ended with 30 salmon and all but one rod landed fish. Logie pool now looks fairly thin although one rod proved it's worth when he hooked 4 salmon and landed three in a morning, it just shows that even in low water great sport can still be had! The Crathie fly is still on fire catching a high proportion of this weeks fish in sizes 13 and 15. Other successful flies have been silver stoats, stoats tails, and some nicely tied 2" waddingtons by Mike Noble.

We have managed to practically double the seasons catches in just two weeks in June leaving us at 98 fish by the end if this week so lets hope we can keep it up a while longer.

Mike and I both feel very privileged as when we approached pleasant walk on Saturday we disturbed a woodcock with 5 chicks only to watch her pick up a chick between her legs and fly with it across the river. I had heard they do this but to witness it I believe is a fairly rare sight.

On another note I now have a waterproof video camera and have been diving some pools filming fish and lies, so once I have enough material I will begin putting some short films together.
